PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. – The many Sevier Countians involved in the start-up of SmartBank have good reason to celebrate. The new bank has received its preliminary approval from the Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions to go ahead and finalize its plans to open.

“The response we received from the community when raising the capital was overwhelming,” said Bill Carroll, SmartBank’s Chairman of the Board. “Now that the approval is official, every member of this community has cause to celebrate. Our team has worked extremely hard over the past year to create a bank that is truly smarter by design, not by accident.”
Now that SmartBank has been given official approval, they will complete the organization process in the next few weeks by calling in their capital. Once all $20 million in capital is received, the Bank can officially open its doors at their main office on Teaster Lane.

“We anticipate a mid-January opening and our entire team is excited,” said Carroll. “We’ve put together a team of bankers and directors from around the community who will build exceptional value for everyone involved, from our clients and community to employees and shareholders. It will be a great way to start the new year.”

Following the opening of the Pigeon Forge location in January, SmartBank plans to kick-off a second branch at their Sevierville site in April.
