Pigeon Forge, Tenn. – August 24, 2011 – SmartBank President & Chief Executive Officer, Billy Carroll, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta’s Nashville Branch. The term will run through December 31, 2013.
Carroll, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, received a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in accounting in 1990. Following his graduation, Carroll worked for Kraft CPAs in Nashville, Tenn. As a licensed CPA, he worked with financial institutions on audit, tax, trust and loan review engagements. From 1992-2006, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Citizens National Bank in Sevierville, Tenn.
Carroll is a founding director of SmartBank and a member of the board of directors of East Tennessee State University’s Banking Advisory Board. He has served as president of the Sevier County High School Foundation, member of the Sevierville Planning Commission, president of the Sevier County University of Tennessee Alumni chapter, board member of the Boys & Girls Club of the Smoky Mountains, board member of Mountain Hope Good Shepherd Clinic, member of Sevier County Economic Development Council, president of the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the United Way of Sevier County. Carroll is a graduate of the Leadership Sevier class of 2000, and is a current member of the 2012 Leadership Knoxville class. In 2010, he was inducted into Junior Achievement’s East Tennessee Business Hall of Fame.
Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta Branch directors provide economic information from their industries and the branch territory to the district bank’s president and head office directors, who use the information in formulating monetary policy and making discount rate recommendations. Carroll was appointed to the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta’s Nashville Branch by the Atlanta Fed’s board of directors. The Board of Governors appoints three of the Nashville Branch directors, and the Atlanta head office directors appoint four.
